Jackson sends Canaries through

by Dave Maher , 28 January 2012

Simeon Jackson scored late on to secure Norwich City a 2-1 victory at West Bromwich Albion and a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Grant Holt scored for the visitors from close range and Marc-Antoine Fortune netted from a Jerome Thomas cross to level the clash.

Five minutes from time, substitute Jackson took advantage of a mistake from Craig Dawson to send Norwich through.

Midway through the first period, Norwich’s 19-year-old goalkeeper Jed Steer did superbly to tip a Thomas volley from a Gonzalo Jara Reyes cross onto the crossbar, as the hosts threatened to break the deadlock.

However, somewhat against the run of the play, the visitors took the lead in the 35th minute when Holt struck from close range following Elliott Bennett's cross from the right wing.

West Brom hit back early in the second half through Fortune, who netted from six yards following a fine run and cross by Thomas.

After equalising, the hosts took control of the game once again, but failed to turn their dominance into a lead, and were struck with a hammer blow five minutes from time.

Dawson was at fault, loosing possession inside his own box, resulting in Jackson drilling a shot beyond Ben Foster and into the corner of the net.

Substitute Shane Long and Joe Mattock made attempts at equalising in the closing stages, but Steer saved both efforts to secure Norwich’s second 2-1 at West Brom in a fortnight.
