Djokovic eyes French prize

by Setanta Staff , 30 January 2012

Novak Djokovic admits that the Grand Slams and in particular the French Open are top of his priorities for the coming year.

The 24-year-old secured his fifth 'Slam with an incredible victory over Rafael Nadal in the final of the Australia Open, with the win achieved in the early hours of Monday morning after nearly six hours on court.

The Serb's latest success means that he has now won three successive Grand Slams and four of the last five, with his only defeat coming at the French Open last year when he ran into an inspired Roger Federer.

The popular right-hander will again be the man to beat in 2012 at the major events and, despite his incredible success, Djokovic insists that he is far from done and is targeting glory at the one major that has eluded him to date.

"I am prioritising the grand slams this year, as every year, and the Olympics," he said. "That's also one of my highest goals.

"That doesn't mean I'm not going to prepare well and perform my best at the other tournaments but it's the grand slams that matter the most.

"So I want to do well and get to my first final at least in Paris. I have never been to the final there and I have a feeling that I am ready this year to achieve that."
