Henderson happy with Reds progress

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson says the recent big cup wins over Man City and United prove the Reds are progressing well.

Liverpool saw off City over two legs to make the Carling Cup final last week - their first major final since the Champions League defeat to AC Milan in 2007 - while they then beat arch-rivals United 2-1 in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

While their cup form has been impressive, Kenny Dalglish's side have been inconsistent in the Premier League, drawing seven games at home and coming in for plenty of criticism for a woeful performance in a 3-1 defeat at Bolton earlier this month.

Henderson, though, insists Liverpool are making big strides as they aim to break back into the top four and pick up some much-needed silverware.

"To get through to a final is a massive achievement for us, so that was brilliant and obviously progressing into the next round of the cup and beating United was another good positive for us," he said.

"We're always confident going into any game. We've got some good players here and we know that if we perform to the best of our ability we can beat anyone.

"We were all disappointed about the Bolton game and I think the criticism was fair but I think the most positive thing was that we bounced back against City and then United.

"I think we've shown the fans that we do care and everybody else that's watching."

Of the Bolton reverse, Henderson added on the club's website: "I think everyone knew anyway that it was a bad game for us - we didn't turn up, we didn't perform like we know that we can.

"We trained hard leading up to the City game and we knew we had to do something, so I'm sure that everyone's pleased about the way in which we bounced back."
