Sunderland take Bridge on loan

by Michelle Fortune , 31 January 2012

Sunderland have signed Wayne Bridge on loan for the rest of the season.

Bridge has been told he does not have a future at Manchester City and Sunderland will be hoping the move to the Stadium of Light proves a successful on for the 31-year-old left-back.

He travelled to Sunderland on Tuesday morning to undergo a medical and after completing the formalities he put pen to paper on a deal which will see him become a Black Cat for the remainder of the campaign.

The deal was completed before the midday deadline and as a result the former England international will be available for Wednesday's Premier League clash with Norwich.

"I'm hoping that with Wayne's undoubted experience and ability he can be a big help to the team until the end of the season," manager Martin O'Neill told the club's official website.

"I'm very pleased to have him here and with the number of injuries we've sustained recently I'm sure he'll be a great help to us."
