Rover boss calls for Samba focus

by Setanta Staff , 02 February 2012 Rover boss calls for Samba focus

Blackburn boss Steve Kean plans to discuss the remainder of the season with Chris Samba after the defender failed to secure an exit.

The club rejected Samba's transfer request in January and Kean is delighted to have kept hold of the towering defender.

Samba missed his third consecutive game on Wednesday night as Rovers slumped to a 2-0 defeat at home to Newcastle, but Kean is confident the centre-half will return and perform for the remainder of the campaign.

QPR failed with two bids for Samba in January and could reignite their interest in the summer, but Kean is convinced the defender will return to the side and help Blackburn in their fight against relegation until the close of the campaign.

"I didn't feel as though he was in the right frame of mind. He was fit and available, but that was my decision. It wasn't that Chris refused or anything, far from it," said Kean.

"I felt the defence against Everton and Fulham did well enough that I wouldn't have changed it anyway (for Newcastle's visit).

"Obviously Chris had handed in a transfer request, wanted to leave the club, that was refused.

"We didn't have any (more) bids, which was good really, because we were only going to turn them down.

"I'll sit down with Chris and I'll say, 'let's move on. You're at the club, let's get back to what normally happens when the window closes', where his performance level is very high and I don't foresee any other problems."
