Wenger confident of top four finish

by Setanta Staff , 02 February 2012 Wenger confident of top four finish

Arsene Wenger has backed his Arsenal team to improve on recent performances and finish in the top four this season.

The Gunners have been on a dreadful run of form since the turn of the year, losing three on the bounce before picking up their first point of 2012 with a goalless draw at Bolton on Wednesday.

The point means Arsenal failed to close the gap on fourth-placed Chelsea after their draw against Swansea the night before, while Liverpool and Newcastle have now gone above them in the race for a spot in the Champions League.

Despite the Gunners' recent poor form, Wenger has come out in defence of his team and has backed them to secure a spot in the top four, claiming the return of a number of players to full fitness will help their charge.

With Arsenal still in the Champions League and FA Cup as well, there is still a chance they could secure some silverware, but Wenger admits it will be tough to balance their top four push with the cup competitions.

"Combining the league, FA Cup and Champions League will be difficult so it is important we don't have more injuries," said the Frenchman.

"We now have Sagna back, Gibbs is not far, Arteta is back so overall I hope we can cope with it."
