Drogba open to new deal

by Setanta Staff , 03 February 2012 Chelsea

Didier Drogba says he hasn't completely ruled out signing a new contract at Chelsea but admits he is a "free agent" at this time.

The 33-year-old is currently on international duty with the Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations after reportedly turning down the chance to join Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua in January.

Having failed to sell the striker in the last transfer window Drogba is now free to talk to other clubs, with MLS side the Chicago Fire ready to open negotiations.

Drogba has managed just 13 starts for Chelsea this season, with Daniel Sturridge and Fernando Torres providing more than adequate competition for a berth in the first team.

Despite a limited role this season Drogba says he hasn't completely ruled out the possibility of signing a new deal with Chelsea but insists his main focus is on the Africa Cup of Nations for now.

"I am a free agent at the moment, so I can talk to any club unless I sign a new contract with Chelsea," Drogba said.

"My doors are still open to Chelsea, no doors are closed.

"I am just thinking about the African Nations Cup, which I want to win with my team-mates for the Ivorian people."
