Cox hails Baggies stay

by Setanta Staff , 03 February 2012 football news

Simon Cox is focused on helping West Brom secure their Premier League status this season after failing to get a transfer window move.

The Republic of Ireland international striker was heavily linked with a move away from the Hawthorns after failing to secure a regular first-team place under boss Roy Hodgson.

However after no clubs came in for Cox, who has been used in a wide right midfield role of late by Hodgson, he is now looking to stay in the side for the remainder of the campaign and will assess his future in the summer.

"I had my phone on all day and no call came," said Cox on the club's website.

"I was happy with that and now I'm here for the rest of the season and I'm looking forward to putting in some good performances, hopefully doing a job for the team and helping us stay in the Premier League.

"I wasn't hoping for a call or expecting one but you never know. In the end no-one did and I was happy to be here.

"There was talk about me leaving but nothing materialised and I'm just happy to keep playing my football and revisit my contract situation in the summer."
