Jelavic reveals Euro ambition

by Setanta Staff , 03 February 2012 New striker reveals Euro ambition

Nikica Jelavic believes his move to Everton can help him achieve his dream of securing a regular place in Croatian national team.

The Toffees new striker, who arrived at Goodison Park from Rangers on Tuesday, is a regular member of Slaven Bilic's squad but he now wants to become a frequent starter for his country as well.

He is convinced his chances of doing that can only be aided by his switch to the Premier League as he will get to test himself out against the best defenders in the business every single week.

"Everybody knows this is the strongest league," he told evertontv. "For me, for everybody that is the case. It's not easy to come here and play, but we'll see. I hope it will be good for me.

"It's a big difference, obviously. But I think in Scotland you also need to be 100 per cent.

"Scotland helped me a lot I and I think I am ready for the challenge here."

Jelavic has also revealed how he spoke with Bilic about life as an Everton player before signing on a four-and-a-half year deal and now he is intent on doing well for his new club to force his way into the reckoning for this summer's European Championships in Poland and Ukraine.

The forward added: "It's nice to know he was here and that he was an ex-Everton player.

"Hopefully playing at Everton will help me go to the Euros and not only in the squad, hopefully the starting 11 too."
