O'Neill hungry for more wins

by Setanta Staff , 03 February 2012 O'Neill hungry for more wins

Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is warning his players there can be no let up despite their impressive return of 19 points from 27.

The Black Cats' fortunes have changed dramatically since O'Neill took over at the Stadium of Light from Steve Bruce but the former Aston Villa chief is refusing to take their Premier League survival for granted despite Wednesday's resounding 3-0 win over Norwich.

That result against the Canaries eased the North-East side onto 30 points and up to eighth place in the table, but the Ulsterman is not one for putting his feet up and relaxing and he doesn't expect his players to either as they prepare for a tough test at Stoke.

Asked if he still frets over his side's vastly improved standing, he said: "Every day, of course. I remember saying to you here way back some weeks ago, the first ambition of mine was to try to get level points from the number of games we had played.

"That was the first thought so it would give you a little bit of respite, you would need that on the board, and then eventually, you would look to go past that.

"We were able to achieve that and then obviously, the winning of the games gives the players the confidence and self-belief to go on.

"Winning football matches is the be all and end all."
