Barca deny Bale rumours

by Setanta Staff , 05 February 2012 Barca deny Bale rumours

Barcelona director of football Andoni Zubizarreta has denied holding talks with Tottenham regards a move for Gareth Bale.

Barca have been heavily linked with a move for the flying winger and reports claimed that former goalkeeper Zubizarreta was in London last week for talks with Spurs officials.

However, Zubizarreta says that is not the case and has played down suggestions that the Welshman is a target.

"It's not true I was in London to negotiate with anybody and I've said a thousand times that 90 per cent of the players we want are already in the Barcelona first team or part of our youth academy," he revealed.

Reports have also claimed the Spanish champions would be unwilling to match Tottenham's valuation and would only go as high as £20m, so a deal seems unlikely.

Tottenham assistant manager Kevin Bond believes that Bale can get even better as a footballer.

"He's on top of his form, you can see he is full of confidence at the moment," Bond said. "He is improving, he has done terrific and I think there is still more to come from him and he wants to improve as well.

"We were with him when he was at Southampton and we always thought he was a fantastic prospect.

"Then he had a difficult period when he first came here. He found it difficult to get in the side. He tried to get in at left-back but couldn't get a game there and now he seems to have evolved. Now he has a little bit more freedom. He has added to his game. He has a bit of variation, he comes inside a bit. It helps him and makes it difficult for opponents to pin him down."
