Martin relieved at Holt stay

by Setanta Staff , 07 February 2012 football news

Norwich defender Russell Martin is delighted the Canaries kept hold of Grant Holt and other stars during the January transfer window.

Striker Holt was the subject of a late bid from SPL giants Rangers, but Norwich rejected the offer.

Martin believes the fact Norwich kept hold of Holt signals their intent and the defender feels there may have been others in the Canaries side who were attracting unwanted interest during last month's transfer window.

"There was no uncertainty in our group that anyone would go at any point," Martin told The Pink'un.

"When they put in a bid for Holty it was quite late on. It would take a lot of money to let him go from this club."

He added: "To be honest, I'm sure there are a few clubs looking at a few of our players because of how well everyone's done and that's the way football is.

"There will always be speculation but we've kept our group and it's a strong group and we've added two more (Jonny Howson from Leeds and Ryan Bennett from Peterborough) who will definitely be of benefit to the club.

"We're in a stronger position now than we were a week ago, so it's brilliant stuff for the club."
