Redknapp won't rule out England

by Setanta Staff , 10 February 2012

Tottenahm boss Harry Redknapp admits he is "flattered" to have been heavily linked with the vacant England manager's job.

The Spurs boss has been tipped by a number of pundits and fellow managers to replace Fabio Capello, who resigned earlier this week following the FA's decision to strip John Terry of the captaincy.

Redknapp admits he is 'flattered' to have been linked with the job, but insists that his focus remains on Spurs.

He told a press conference on Friday: "Yes, it's flattering. Other managers have come out and said nice things and I appreciate everybody's support in everything that has happened in my life in the last little spell (Redknapp was cleared of tax evasion charges earlier this week)."

The FA are unlikely to make a decision on the next permanent England manager until after friendly fixture against Holland on February 29, with Stuart Pearce set to take temporary charge of the team.

It has been suggested Redknapp could continue as Spurs boss whilst taking charge of the national side on a part-time basis, but the 64-year-old admits managing a club and country isn't an ideal situation.

"It is hard enough managing a league club, let alone your country. It is too very difficult jobs and you have to focus on one job," he continued.

The FA are yet to approach either Spurs, who would be in line for compensation if Redknapp does take the role, or the Spurs boss, and Redknapp revealed any decision he makes will be in the best interests of his family.

He added: "At my age I have to do what's right for me. Whatever decision, my family will come first now. If the opportunity comes I will look at it in then."
