Lescott calls for away improvement

by Setanta Staff , 11 February 2012

Manchester City's Joleon Lescott believes the club need to improve on results on their travels if they are to secure the league title.

City are currently two points clear of Manchester United at the top of the Premier League table but their away form is a cause for concern for defender Lescott.

The Etihad Stadium outfit have managed just one win in their last five away games in the league, at rock bottom Wigan, and slumped to defeat at Everton and Sunderland in January.

Lescott insists City are good enough to win the title but the defender admits their away form must improve if they are to secure Premier League glory ahead of Sunday's trip to Aston Villa.

He told the club's official website: "Villa will be tough, we know that, but we need to get our away form back on track as quickly as possible.

"We lost at Everton in our last away game, but despite their position in the league, Goodison Park is still one of the toughest away grounds you can play at.

"It was important we bounced back against Fulham, but we need to prove we're not just a team who win all our home games by picking up three points on Sunday."

City will be without brothers Yaya and Kolo Toure, as they are currently involved in the African Cup of Nations with the Ivory Coast, and striker Mario Balotelli, who serves the final match of a four-game ban.
