Meath cruise to Cusack Park win

by Setanta staff , 12 February 2012

Meath stuffed neighbours Westmeath by 12 points on Sunday and sit top of Allianz Football League Division Two after two games.

The Royal County followed up last week's victory over Monaghan by coasting to a 0-17 to 0-5 win at Cusack Park, with a very bad day for Westmeath compounded by the sending-off of defender Michael Ennis.

Cian Ward scored the game's first point for Meath, with Stephen Bray adding two more, the second a free, before Ciaran Martin got the Lake County off the mark.

Meath's Seamus Kenny and Westmeath's Alan Giles then traded points before Bray, Ward and the regularly impressive Graham Reilly all kicked over to put Meath well clear.

A good moment for Ennis saw him get on the board for the hosts, but only Callum McCormack would score for them again before half-time. He kicked over the bar when a goal might have been on and that was as good as it got for Westmeath, who trailed by 0-10 to 0-4 at the break as Cormac McGuinness and Reilly added to the visitors' tally.

Only Martin would score after the break for Pat Flanagan's men, while Ennis would receive a second yellow card with a quarter of the game left to play.

Cian Ward, Conor Lenihan, Mark Ward and Brian Meade all added to the Meath tally, while veteran Graham Geraghty came on and was only denied a peach of a lobbed goal by a fine Gary Connaughton save.
