Derby hero eyes top-10 for Baggies

by Setanta Staff , 13 February 2012 football news

Peter Odemwingie is targeting a top-10 finish after his hat-trick helped fire West Brom to a 5-1 derby win at Wolves on Sunday.

The 30-year-old Nigerian was left in dreamland as he followed Robert Earnshaw and Somen Tchoyi in becoming only the third Baggies player to score three goals in a Premier League match.

However, Odemwingie's was all the more sweet as it came at Molineux against their Black Country rivals in a game which was vital to both sides' respective survival ambitions.

Following the game, Odemwingie, whose only other career hat-trick came for French side Lille more five years ago, stressed that Roy Hodgson's men should now be setting their sights on improving their home form and finishing higher up the Premier League table as opposed to looking over their shoulders.

He told the West Brom official site: "Hopefully, we can increase the gap we have further, be able to relax towards the end of the season and finish in the top ten.

"I understand the fans' frustration this year because we have been inconsistent at home.

"Away games have been better and I hope that today will be a consolation for the last few games at home. Shane Long is fit again and there is a lot of competition up front.

"A few players have come back from injury and now we need to keep going and aim for a top-ten finish."
