Moses deal on hold

by Setanta Staff , 13 February 2012 Moses deal on hold

Roberto Martinez is keen to get Victor Moses tied down to a new deal but says all contract talks are on hold.

Moses has impressed for Wigan this season despite the club battling to stay in the Premier League and rival clubs have been sniffing around the former Crystal Palace youngster.

Queens Park Rangers were keen to take him back down south during the January transfer window but Martinez managed to keep hold and he will now play a key role in the battle to stay up.

Talks over a new deal have taken place but have yet to be finalised and Martinez admits the situation may now have to wait while Latics battle to stay in the Premier League.

Moses was inspirational in the 2-1 win at Bolton on Saturday and he has a huge role to play over the next 13 games.

"He is a big asset for our football club," Martinez told the Press Association. "He is only a young man but the manner in which he is taking responsibility and playing his football in the circumstances we are in shows how strong-minded he is.

"I know that the can go on to the next level but he probably needs another 40 or 50 games in the Premier League.

"He is capable of playing for any team. He understands how important he is for us and I'm sure we're going to be able to extend his contract.

"There have been some developments but, as you can imagine, the situation at the club is so important that every personal issue is going to be looked at after the next few weeks."
