Ba backing top-four finish

by Setanta Staff , 14 February 2012 Ba backing top-four finish

Demba Ba is confident Newcastle are still on track for a top-four finish in the Barclays Premier League and a Champions League place.

The Magpies have slipped to sixth in the table following their blistering start to the campaign, with last Saturday's 5-0 loss at Tottenham their heaviest defeat of the season.

However, with Chelsea and Liverpool both losing last weekend, Newcastle remain just one point off a Champions League place, and Ba believes his side can still push for the top four despite the occasional setback.

"I didn't think it [the season] would be as successful as it has been," Ba told the Northern Echo.

"You always work to be one of the best and that is what I am doing here - it is what I will continue to do.

"Other teams are working to be the best too and maybe they have a bit more quality than us but we're doing very well. This season is ours - we just need to enjoy it."
