Lambert driven by fear

by Setanta Staff , 14 February 2012 football news

Norwich boss Paul Lambert insists that the "fear of losing drives us on" and has refused to get complacent.

The Canaries sit eighth in the Premier League table and are 14 points clear of the drop zone with just 13 games remaining.

Lambert, however, insists that nothing has been achieved yet and has refused to allow complacency to creep in as he seeks to secure survival.

"The fear of losing drives us on. We have to keep that. As soon as you lose it, the hunger goes from you as a player and it the same as a manager," he told the Norwich Advertiser.

"I think once you lose that fear of losing it can come back and bite you. I think the players know me and my attitude by now; that you can never rest on it. Even if you have success, don't rest on your laurels. You have to keep on going. We have bought into it and the group here have been absolutely fantastic."

The Canaries are two points above Everton, who have voiced their desire to secure European football this season, and Lambert could well be forgiven for adjusting his side's targets due to their lofty league position.

However, the Norwich boss has refused to change the mantra he has stuck to all season and reiterated that until survival is assured he will not rest.

He added: "Until somebody tells me it is over then I'll believe it. I don't know (where we can finish). As long as I can stay above it. It's about survival, which is staying 17th or above. That is what I want."
