More injury gloom for Campbell

by Setanta Staff , 14 February 2012 football news

QPR striker DJ Campbell faces at least a month on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring tear while training last week.

It is the latest setback in what has been an unlucky first campaign with the London club for Campbell, following his arrival at Loftus Road from Blackpool during the close-season.

He suffered the injury ahead of Saturday's 3-2 defeat to Blackburn, and the timing couldn't have been more cruel, as Campbell was actually close to full fitness following an identical injury suffered in the 3-1 victory over Wigan on January 21.

"It's frustrating but it happens, it's been like that all season. I was on the last day of my rehab and it went again. I've had a few injections on it, so we're hoping that might get me back a bit sooner," Campbell told London24.com, as he reflected on an injury and illness-plagued campaign.

"It has been one thing after another but I just have to try to get on with it. Hopefully if I can do my rehab a bit better this time then it will be okay.

"But it's a grade two tear so I'm looking at four to six weeks."

The news is a big blow to QPR manager Mark Hughes, who is already contending with the absence of striker Djibril Cisse.

Cisse still has two matches left to serve on the three-match ban that was imposed when he was sent-off while making his home debut against Wolves on February 4.
