McEniff wants Donegal rift resolved

by Michelle Fortune , 15 February 2012

Brian McEniff believes the time has come for an independent mediator to step in to heal the rift between Donegal manager Jim McGuinness and Kevin Cassidy.

McGuinness axed Cassidy from his Donegal panel for 2012 in response to the player's contribution to the 'This Is Our Year' book in which he revealed training secrets.

Despite McGuinness hinting that he would be willing to invite the player back, Cassidy confirmed at the weekend that he would not line out for his native county again.

Just a couple of days later they were interviewed within a few feet of each other on television but made no attempt to communicate even when McGuinness was asked to comment on Cassidy’s inter-county retirement.

McEniff has grown tired of the situation and he has called on Martin Carney to act as a mediator in the hope of resolving their differences.

“The two men have to get together to sort out their differences," McEniff is quoted as saying in the Irish Daily Star. "They are both former team-mates and good Donegal men.

"I don't think it is beyond the bounds of possibility that they cannot sort out their differences.

"The time has come for someone to sort this out once and for all. Martin is a former county player and is living outside the county and has no baggage with either party.

"I would love to see the matter resolved and for Kevin to be ideally back on the Donegal squad."
