Cahill has no interest in a summer exit from Bolton

by Joseph Caron Dawe , 28 May 2009

Bolton defender Gary Cahill has turned his back on speculation linking him with a summer exit from the club, instead professing his happiness with life at The Trotters.

The former Aston Villa centre-back – who joined Bolton from the Midlands outfit 18 months ago – has been in fine form for Gary Megson’s side this season.

Cahill’s displays at the back for Bolton have reportedly aroused the attention of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, and the 23-year-old has been named on the standby list for England’s World Cup qualifiers next month.

Despite all the hype surrounding him Cahill has stated his desire to remain at Bolton and develop his talents further at The Reebok Stadium.

"I'm happy and settled in Bolton," Cahill told the Bolton News. "Since I've been at the club everyone has been outstanding; the manager, staff, crowd and players.

"It's a great place to come and play your football. There's a great togetherness in the club between the lads."

He continued: "It [this season] has been an improvement and we want to improve again next year, and we can do that by bringing a couple of players in.

"The squad is quite small but hopefully this summer we can add to it and strengthen.

"We all want to push on but whether you can do that is a different matter. It's a hard thing going out there and trying to attract class players to come in.

"We've got a small squad and we've not used that many players so it would be nice to have a few more options available to us, but it's easier said than done."

Cahill still has two years remaining on his current deal at Bolton.
