Veloso future in Sporting hands

by Tom Walker , 29 May 2009

Bolton target Miguel Veloso claims Sporting hold all the aces rather than him as speculation mounts over his future.

The 23-year-old defensive midfielder stated a desire to play abroad earlier in the season and after a poor season with Sporting that dream may soon be a reality.

But for a brief loan spell at Olivais Moscavide, Veloso has spent his entire career at the Estadio Jose Alvalade but the Portugal star has alienated himself from team-mates following his previous comments.

Reflecting on coach Paulo Bento’s admission that the player could leave this summer, Veloso is keen to let the management decide his fate.

"If the coach said that I am up for sale, that is his choice, not mine," Veloso told the Portuguese press.

"He is the coach and the one in charge.

"I think what has been said of me is not correct, maybe they wanted to make me a scapegoat.

"A lot of people have said the same and I only gave my opinion that I have the dream of playing abroad.

"I do not regret anything of what I said,"

Veloso, once a Manchester United target, could now be pursued by long time admirers Bolton. Reports on Friday claim The Trotters are preparing a bid.
