Villa ‘target’ unfazed by transfer talk

by Laurent Picard , 04 June 2009

Antonio Apono has played down Aston Villa’s reported interest in his services.

The 25-year-old has been dubbed ‘La Liga’s sensation’ by several Spanish media sources, following an impressive season with Malaga during which he bagged nine goals.

Apono has been linked to three Spanish sides in Valencia, Villarreal and Sevilla, and Martin O’Neill’s Villa, who have just lost Gareth Barry, have also emerged as possible suitors.

But the midfielder wants to rest after a long season and has put his future in the hands of his agent.

“They have not told me anything,” he said. “But I am a Malaga player and am very happy here. What I am going to do now is relax.

“My representative deals with that kind of stuff. If they were to make a move in my direction, then I would have to listen to what they have to say and think about it.

“Nevertheless, I repeat that Malaga is my club and I am not aware of anything.”
