Chamakh still fancies Premier League move

by Laurent Picard , 06 June 2009

Marouane Chamakh has insisted that moving to The Premier League remains his priority.

The talented striker claimed during Bordeaux’s title celebrations that he wanted to stay in France and sign a new deal with the Ligue 1 champions.

But the Morocco international has now declared that he reacted in the heat of the moment, and that he remains determined to make the step to Premier League football.

Les Girondins have offered Chamakh a two-year contract extension and his agent Fabien Petit refused to comment on his client’s future when contacted by setanta.com.

“I got carried away,” Chamakh told Le Parisien. “I reacted in the heat of the moment because of the emotional atmosphere and I said I am staying not to spoil the party.

“I have not changed my mind. I still want to go, even if I am not closing the door to anything.

“I met some supporters on Monday and they understood me. They told me they would not hold a grudge if I was to leave.”

Arsenal, Tottenham, Fulham and Everton have been linked with the striker.
