Hunt puts Toffees on red alert

by Toby Davis , 10 June 2009

Reading’s Stephen Hunt has issued a come-and-get-me plea to Premier League clubs after declaring he wants a ‘fresh start’.

The midfielder’s admission is likely to put Everton on red alert after he was blocked from completing a switch to Goodison Park in January.

Everton boss David Moyes has reportedly been tracking the midfielder for some time and is thought to be keen to return to the negotiating table for the Republic of Ireland international.

Hunt says he remains happy at Reading, but their failure to return to The Premier League, coupled with Steve Coppell’s resignation as manager, has prompted the wideman to seek out a new challenge.

He said: “My own situation is that I am happy at Reading, but in terms of my future, I’ve been loyal to Reading, maybe a fresh start would be good for me and the club.

“I think me and the club agree it is time for a fresh start. I don’t know about that (Everton). I can’t talk about other clubs.”
