Sagna denies he wants to see the Bac of Arsenal

by Tom Adams , 16 June 2009

Bacary Sagna has firmly denied quotes attributed to him in the French press which appeared to suggest that the Arsenal right back would be open to a move to Real Madrid.

Sagna reportedly told Aujourd’hui Sport that he ‘wouldn’t turn my back’ on interest from the big-spending Spanish giants after they apparently targeted both the France international and his team-mate Gael Clichy.

But after Cesc Fabregas was forced to deny that he was open to a move to Barcelona on Monday, Sagna has become the latest Arsenal player to claim he was misquoted regarding a possible move away from Emirates Stadium this summer.

“I have seen the quotes attributed to me in the French media today and I just want to put the record straight,” Sagna told the club’s official website.

“These comments are not accurate and I’m not aware of any speculation linking me to another club. I am 100 percent committed to Arsenal.

"This is a great club and I’m proud to wear the shirt. I’m looking forward to returning for pre-season training in July and preparing for the challenges that next season will bring.

“We have a great squad of players at the club and I know that we can achieve something together at Arsenal, my focus is nowhere else.”

Sagna joined Arsenal from Auxerre in 2007 and was named in the Premier League Team of the Season following a tremendous debut campaign for The Gunners.

He remained as Arsene Wenger’s first choice right back last season, holding off Emmanuel Eboue who revealed on Tuesday that he may be forced to seek alternative employment due to his lack of first team opportunities in North London.
