Madrid beckon as in-demand Villa makes decision

by Tom Adams , 17 June 2009

Valencia striker David Villa has tantalisingly revealed that he has already taken a decision over his future and has now ordered his agent to make his wish a reality.

The Spain star may find himself at the centre of a storm of transfer speculation but remains calmness personified and has refused to elaborate on whether he will be leaving the Mestalla and, if so, where he could be heading.

Villa scored his country’s only goal in the Confederations Cup victory over Iraq on Wednesday night and is generating extensive column inches at present, with Barcelona and Real Madrid both making official approaches to Valencia.

Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United have also been linked with the striker who has scored 87 goals in 134 appearances since joining Valencia from Real Zaragoza in the summer of 2005.

“I only have a choice,” said Villa following Spain’s victory over Iraq. “My agent already knows it and is working on it. I am quiet here.

“At this moment I am calm playing with Spain in the Confederations Cup and scoring goals. I have not imposed a date to achieve my target.

“Really I do not want to say more because this subject does not depend totally on me.”

Villa’s goal against Iraq took him clear of Fernando Hierro and into second place on the country’s all-time list, with Real Madrid icon Raul currently 14 ahead with 44 goals to his name.

It is highly likely that the two players could be playing alongside each other next season as Real are believed to be leading the chase for Villa having already agreed deals for Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo.
