“Matigol” to turn his back on Blackburn

by Laurent Picard , 18 June 2009

Reported Blackburn target Matias Fernandez would be delighted to join Sporting, his agent has declared.

The Chile international is expected to leave Spanish side Villarreal this summer after bagging only six league goals in the last two seasons at the Madrigal.

Sam Allardyce’s Rovers are believed to be keen on the 23-year-old’s services, but Portuguese giants Sporting are apparently in pole position to snap him up according to his agent.

Manchester City striker Felipe Caicedo has also emerged as a possible option for the Lisbon side.

“Matias sees Sporting as a great club, a very prestigious one, who are always involved in the title race,” agent Alejandro Santiesteban told A Bola.

“Both clubs are in touch, nevertheless, we are yet to receive an official offer.”
