Ivan de la Pena is close to signing a new Espanyol contract, seemingly ending reputed interest from Blackburn.
The 33-year-old’s current deal with the Barcelona club is set to expire this summer, prompting interest from Rovers as well as Spartak Moscow and clubs from both Greece and United Arab Emirates.
However, it now seems that the midfielder is likely to get his number one wish to remain where he is.
"There is an agreement in principle. When the two parties want to ensure a continual things are easier, the positions are very close. In the next few hours left closed renewed hope," said the adviser responsible for negotiations.
“Unless there is an unexpected last-minute problem the midfielder will contribute two more seasons at Espanyol.”
