Barca chief rules out Eto'o sale

by Toby Davis , 23 June 2009

Barcelona president Joan Laporta says he is determined to keep hold of Samuel Eto’o and has dismissed the current speculation linking him with a move away from the club as contract posturing.

The Cameroon striker has been touted for a move away from Camp Nou, with several clubs, including Manchester City, rumoured to be interested in acquiring him.

The player was reportedly lined up for a swap deal involving Inter forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but Laporta says he is part of manager Pep Guardiola’s long-term plans.

“I would like him to stay many years,” Laporta told Spanish TV program Al Primer Toque.

“It is a contract year and it is normal for people to assess the situation and find the best solution.

“I want him to stay, and Guardiola thinks the same.”

Laporta also revealed Bayern are in no mood to do business over reported Manchester United target Franck Ribery. "Bayern do not want to sell," added Laporta.
