Santa Cruz eyes Tevez link-up

by Robin Hackett , 23 June 2009

New Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz says he would relish the chance to play alongside Carlos Tevez next season.

The 27-year-old Paraguay international finally completed his move from Blackburn on Monday, and reports suggest City are due to tie up a deal for Tevez soon as Chelsea are apparently now out of the running.

And although Tevez would provide further competition for Santa Cruz at Eastlands, he says he would love to see him join the club.

“If Tevez comes too, he would be a very good signing," Santa Cruz told 970 AM.

"I hope that Tevez could join Manchester City. I heard that there have been conversations about that happening. He would be a really good signing."

City failed to live up to expectations last season and had to settle for ninth place in the league, but Santa Cruz believes that they can break into the Champions League places after a summer of heavy investment.

"The owners want the club to be more successful,” he told the club’s official website.

“They want to break into the top four.

"I spoke to the chairman and I know his ambitions are known to everybody at the club – he made sure that I know as well."
