Walsh stuns Taylor in Coventry

by Gareth Maher , 29 March 2009

Mark Walsh pulled off a huge shock by beating Phil Taylor at the Players Championship in Coventry.

The Power was expected to breeze past his opponent at the Ricoh Arena, but his supporters were stunned when he came out on the wrong side of a 6-4 result.

Having claimed the World Championship title for the 14th time back in January, this was meant to be the year that Taylor really stepped up his game and stretched his unbeaten run.

However, he suffered defeat to James Wade in the Premier League series and has now fallen to Walsh, who beat Terry Jenkins and Steve Beaton en route to the final.

Meanwhile, Andy Fordham finally made his PDC debut, but didn't last long as he was knocked out by Gary Scratchley.
