Dwain Chambers has been included in the British team for the inaugural European Team Championships in Portugal next weekend.
The sprinter, who served a two-year drug ban after he tested positive for the steroid THG in 2003, is selected as the British team look to give themselves their best chance of success in the 100 metres.
Chambers, 31, learned of his inclusion in the squad after winning at an international meeting in Montreuil on Thursday and is looking forward to competing in what had been called The European Cup in Leira.
“I have officially been selected and I am looking forward to competing with and being amongst my fellow team-mates,” he was quoted as saying by The Times.
Chambers, who as a result of his suspension is banned from competing in the Olympics, does give Britain a great shout in the 100 metres, in which he is clear leader in the European rankings with a time of 10.06 seconds.
Christine Ohuruogu will compete in the 200 metres, with Phillips Idowu also in the squad, but Natasha Danvers and Jessica Ennis miss out.
