Clottey wants rematch

by Ciaran Baynes , 14 June 2009

Joshua Clottey demanded a rematch after his split decision loss to Miguel Cotto on Saturday night.

Clottey was very much the away fighter against the Puerto Rican idol in Madison Square Garden on the eve of the city's parade.

After having Cotto in big trouble in the eighth round, much to his cost, Clottey seemed to drop the pace in the final third of the fight.

He rejected the suggestion afterwards that he could have done more to win the contest.

"I want a rematch because I didn't deserve the decision," Clottey said on Setanta Sports.

"I was very unhappy when I heard it. People told me I would get robbed of a decision here.

"I think I was doing enough, I was coming forward, blocking his shots and throwing the power shots.

"I was throwing one shot at a time because he can't see my right hand, but he's trying to move around and I didn't want to miss the punches."

Clottey insists he was not hurt by Cotto when he was dropped in the first round.

"My step and his jab came together, that's why I went down."
