McDowell frustrated by putting

Graeme McDowell admitted his putting let him down on the final day of the US Open at Bethpage Black.

McDowell began the day on level par and was just one-over-par at the turn following his bogey at the eighth. However, three bogeys in the final nine holes meant the Northern Irish golfer had to settle for a four-over-par 74 and a share of 18th.

It proved to be a frustrating day for McDowell and he was disappointed with his putting at the tricky New York course.

"It's kind of a relief it's all over, but that wasn't quite what I had in mind, last round 74," McDowell admitted. "I left some putts out there as I missed a few fairways on the back. I didn't have my A game this week, especially off the tee.

"It kind of fell off for me a little bit. The wind came up. It was tricky right there. Looking back, obviously I've been ruining some chances. I had a chance to win this tournament.

"You know, the more times you put yourself in the mix, the more experience you can gain from that, and you can kind of learn from that experience and sort of analyze the weaknesses in your game - work on those and come back.

"I want to win majors very soon in my career, and I'm slowly becoming the player I want to become. So I've just got to keep working at it."
