Rising Donegal star, and Young Footballer of the Year 2009 Michael Murphy, has revealed he would like to pursue the possibility of launching an AFL career.
The 20-year-old, who lined out for Ulster in their interprovincial semi-final win over Leinster at the weekend, has up to now rejected the overtures of Aussie clubs, but met agent Ricky Nixon in the past week.
"I am weighing up the possibility of going out for a trial," he said in the Irish News of the World. "I met Ricky Nixon in Dublin on Tuesday night. There was nothing put in place. I'll see over the next coming days or weeks.
"We were just chatting about the possibility of going out to Australia for a trial. I would be interested in going out. I would possibly go out in the next couple of months."
The young full-forward, who has just commenced a degree course at DCU, has been a ray of light for Donegal during some difficult recent seasons. Team mate and Allstar winner Kevin Cassidy admitted that losing Murphy would be a "massive loss" to the county but feels that ultimately, he must make a decision in his own best interests.
"You really have to put your own feelings first and see what's out there for yourself," said Cassidy. "Any man playing sport at any level would love to play as a professional athlete."
