Former Offaly hurler Kevin Martin has been appointed manager of the Westmeath county team.

The Tullamore clubman, who served as both full-forward and manager of the recently crowned Offaly SHC champions, has been asked to take over from outgoing boss Eamon Gallagher.

During his intercounty playing career, Martin was renowned as a half back and won two All-Ireland medals in 1994 and 1998. He also claimed an Allstar in 1994.
