Limerick players to discuss next move

Limerick's hurling panel are to hold a meeting this weekend as they look to decide on their next course of action amid the ongoing unrest between themselves and manager Justin McCarthy.

Former Waterford boss McCarthy has caused outrage by excluding 12 established players including star forward Andrew O'Shaughnessy, Stephen Lucey and Donie Ryan as he prepares for the new season.

Experienced campaigner and former captain Damien Reale has already retired out of frustration at the way the players were not even informed of their exclusion.

"The players are meeting at the weekend and that's all the county board can really say at this time," PRO Helen Cross was quoted as saying by the Irish Independent before saying that the whole situation is only down to a communications problem.

"What happened was players didn't get the text message. They have not been dropped. It is down to the method of communication. Justin McCarthy organised the text message. This has been blown out of all proportion."
