Manchester City Transfer Talk

by setanta.com staff , 29 May 2009

Check out all the transfer talk from Manchester City throughout the summer.

* Roque Santa Cruz's medical at Manchester City story is right here.

* Sport claim Robinho wants to join Barcelona. The Catalan daily do seem to think everybody wants to wear their colours though and City did deny this pretty emphatically recently.

* The Sun says Roque Santa Cruz will sign for Manchester City within the next 48 hours. Are Blackburn fans glad to be shot of him in the end, as good a player as he is?

* Santa Cruz update... Our Austrian links are telling us Blackburn are back in for Marc Janko, which suggests the Santa Cruz move to City is gathering pace as we predicted yesterday...

* City news... The Sunderland Echo reckon Man City might actually perform a U-turn and keep Richard Dunne. Tell me City fans, is Dunne the donkey that we think he is in this office? By the way, Steve Bruce will now target Titus Bramble, Seb Bassong and Sylvain Distin...

* The latest on Eto'o... Let's be honest, City have to offer the lad something more than just money to lure him. He's loaded, so money isn't the issue. The thing that might turn the striker's head is City's intention to use him as the ambassor for taking Manchester City deep into Africa and Asia. That is the pitch City are putting to Eto'o for a £34m transfer...

* Good news for Man City... Julio Baptista insists he wants to stay in Italy amid rumours that Manchester City are interested in his services. Click here for more...

* More news from City... Felipe Caceido's agent has insisted Manchester City will decide the player's future. Sporting and West Ham are interested...

According to El Mundo, Man City have been ruled out of the Eto'o race due to his desire to play Champions League football. El Mundo claim Man United, Man City and Inter have all made offers, but City have fallen short...

* Manchester City appear to be closing in on the signing of Espanyol teenager Joan Angel Ramon as the Spanish side have confirmed interest in the player. Click here for more.

* Man City have rebuffed Sporting in their first attempt to prise Felipe Caicedo away from Eastlands. Read on.

* Elano is a target for Inter but his agent has now touted the playmaker for a possible move to Juve. More here.

* Manchester City have been linked with all manner of expensive world stars this summer but the club also look close to picking up a Spanish 16-year-old. More here.

* Man City and West Ham fans take note. City striker Felipe Caicedo has claimed that West Ham have been in contact with him. Read exactly what the burly forward said here.

* Let's go to Belgium. Marcos Camozzato - a defender for Standard Liege, for the ill-informed among you - looks to be staying put despite reputed interest from Pompey, Manchester City and Birmingham.

* Mark Hughes has rubbished more reports that Robinho could leave Manchester City this summer. Barcelona was rumoured as a possible destination earlier this week.

* The Gazzetta dello Sport claims there are three offers on the table for Maicon, with Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City all registering their interest.

* Martin O’Neill would also like West Ham United defender Matthew Upson, according to the People, although the News of the World claim the England international is more likely to end up at Manchester City.

* Chelsea will make a last-ditch bid to hijack Carlos Tevez’s proposed move to Manchester City say the News of the World.

* Juventus director of football Alessio Secco says they would not be interested in swapping David Trezeguet for Elano.

* Another rumour arrives from Italy where Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Manchester City and Juve could be in talks for a swap deal involving Elano and David Trezeguet!

* Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws has denied suggestions that goalkeeper Lee Grant is a target for Manchester City. More to follow.

* Mark Hughes has confirmed that Joe Hart will be allowed to leave Manchester City on loan and Birmingham are believed to be at the front of the queue for the goalkeeper. Click here for more.

* Some disappointing news for Arsenal and Manchester City fans... Edin Dzeko has stated he will either join Milan or sign a new contract at Wolfsburg, seemingly ruling out a move to The Premier League this summer. Click here for more.

* Manchester City have forgotten the value of money and think they'll get £10m in compensation for out-of-contract Daniel Sturridge.

* So, Robinho likes a bit of Barca. Click here for more. Can't see them being interested to be honest.

* Giuseppe Rossi, who scored his first Italy goal in the win over a shadow Northern Ireland side, has hinted he has interest from England. The Villarreal marksman is being linked with Manchester City in some quarters. More here.

* I've caught wind of reports from Spain claiming that Athletic Bilbao midfielder Javi Martinez could be on his way to Manchester City. Take my word for it, this guy looks to be a seriously classy customer.

* Reports in Italy claim Manchester City have entered the race to sign Liverpool target Ezequiel Lavezzi.

* We have spoken exclusively to Samuel Eto'o's agent and he suggests the Cameroon and Barcelona star could well be open to a move to Manchester City this summer. Click here for the full story.

* Manchester City have been linked with a move for Werder Bremen star Mezut Ozil and the German club have quickly moved to open talks over a new contract for the international. He will be getting a nice little pay rise, no doubt. Full story here.

* Sources in Australia reckon Manchester City are firm favourites to land Lucas Neill. Mark Hughes worked with the West Ham defender at Blackburn and he is now on a free, not that this would concern City. On Sunday, Neill will play in front of City's main man Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahavan when the Socceroos face Qatar.

* Now the Manchester Evening News is reporting that Edin Dzeko is a target for Mark Hughes but given that the striker said yesterday he hopes to sign a new contract with Wolfsburg, I'm not so sure about that one. What you do lot reckon?

* The agent of Gelson Fernandes has exclusively told setanta.com that the Switzerland international will leave City this summer after being frustrated by an influx of players, most recently Gareth Barry of course.

* Another wild rumour from the continent suggests that Milan are hoping to sign Robinho from Manchester City as they prepare to lose Kaka. That one is courtesy of Corriere dello Sport.

This just in from Norway... John Carew says he is flattered to be linked with Manchester City but the giant striker has played down suggestions that he could follow in Gareth Barry's footsteps.

* The agent of Roberto Merino, who plays for Serie B side Salernitana, claims Manchester City have made a bid for the Peruvian midfielder who is described as a 'little Maradona'.

* It's only early but it's never too early for a Manchester City transfer tale. Mark Hughes is said to be keen on pairing Samuel Eto'o with Carlos Tevez. Wonder if Man Utd and Barcelona are aware of this

* A decent bit of breaking news here from Germany. Ze Roberto, who is out of contract at Bayern Munich, is claiming contact from Manchester City. We're doing a story on it as we speak..

* Elano has said that Jose Mourinho is a bit special and that he'd like to play for Inter.

* Dietmar Hamann, whose spread betting prowess seems about on a par with mine, says he will talk with Manchester City's management and decide his future within the next 10 days. He reckons he wants to keep on playing, but it definitely won't be at City now they've bought big in Barry to play in his position.

Gareth Barry has signed for Manchester City. Crazy times. £12 million will be the fee paid to Villa. Read all about it here.

* Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh has been constantly linked with a move to England in recent months with Arsenal, Spurs and Man City amongst his reported suitors, but the Moroccan has claimed he will be staying with the newly-crowned French champions. Click here for full story.
