Irish sports broadcaster announces first of 79 exclusively live Premier League fixtures

Good news for Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal fans

Setanta Sports today confirmed the first of its 79 exclusively live Barclays Premier League games for the 2008/09 season.

Fans of Ireland’s most supported Premier League clubs will be delighted with Setanta’s initial selection of matches. Liverpool fans will get a chance to see their team on Setanta nine times in the opening 16 weeks of the season, while Manchester United will be in action eight times.

Last year Setanta Sports screened 16 Manchester United and 16 Liverpool Premier League games. This season Setanta are already on course to broadcast at least the same amount, while Arsenal fans will also get a chance to see their team’s fluid skills in six games on Setanta over the first couple of months.

Setanta’s coverage of the top teams also includes over 30 exclusively live pre-season friendlies starting on July 12th. These include three Man United, four Liverpool and five Arsenal fixtures. Also for the first time Setanta will be showing the FA Community Shield exclusively live and will also be the only broadcaster in Ireland to show all live televised games from the FA Cup over the next three seasons.

Michael O’Rourke co-founder of Setanta Sports said: “This is a massive season for us and we are delighted to start with a very strong set of fixtures. These Premier League games combined with over 30 pre-season friendlies should delight our customers and all fans of the beautiful game. Along with 79 Premier League games, we have now added the FA Community Shield and we will be the only broadcaster of all the televised FA Cup games in Ireland.”

Soccer fans subscribing to Setanta will also have access to live coverage from the Champions League, UEFA Cup, eircom League of Ireland and the Setanta Sports Cup as well as to the Barclays Premier League club channels Arsenal TV and LFCTV.

The first set of Barclays Premier League fixtures, including big clashes between Sunderland and Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle, Everton and Man Utd, Spurs and Liverpool, Arsenal and Aston Villa and Aston Villa and Man Utd, will be shown from August 16th on Setanta Sports and marks the beginning of another exciting season for the Irish sports broadcaster.
