Hammers in talks for Diego
by Adam Marshall, 09 May 2008
Gil Vicente president Antonio Fiuza claims the club are negotiating with West Ham for the transfer of Diego Gaucho.
The centre back has emerged as a target for Alan Curbishley as he plots a summer reshaping plan for his Hammers squad.
Portuguese sources claim the move could initially be on loan from August with a view to a permanent deal for the Brazil-born stopper, who is hoping to complete the process of becoming a European citizen.
"I recognise that we are in negotiations," Fiuza told A Bola when quizzed on West Ham's interest.
"But we will seek the best for the club and for the player."
The 26-year-old will be hoping to secure a move to Upton Park once the Premier League season draws to a close.
