Chelsea never contacted me - Ramos
by Laurent Picard, 09 May 2008

Ramos: Committed for real

Sergio Ramos has been linked to a £20 million bid from Chelsea, but the versatile defender has said he plans to stay at Real Madrid for the remainder of his career.

The former Sevilla wonderkid has become one of the best right backs and centre backs in the world.

The 22-year-old has emerged as a transfer target for Roman Abramovich’s Blues, but the Primera Liga double champion has committed himself to Los Merengues and revealed he plans to stay at El Santiago Bernabeu for life.

“Nobody has told me anything about it,” Ramos told AS, when asked about Chelsea’s reported approach.

“The fact that great clubs are interested makes me proud, but I am very settled because I am only thinking of El Madrid and of retiring here."

Real chairman Ramon Calderon declared on Thursday that the only chance for his key player to move on was for him to express his intention to leave the club.

Should Gold and Sullivan leave Birmingham?

Setanta readers' comment of the day

“United deserved the title. why can't everyone see that? Why are there all the recriminations from TV and people on here? It was a clear penalty and the rio incident one wasn't. Yes, scholes could've been sent off but how many times do you see the ref show leniency in such situations? Chelsea couldn't even win anyway so any argument is completely moot.”
