Scolari slams City link
by Laurent Picard, 09 May 2008
Portugal chief Luiz Felipe Scolari says he has not been proposed to replace Sven Goran Eriksson at Manchester City.
The Brazilian manager is preparing to lead La Selecao to Euro 2008 next month and is strongly linked to a move to The City of Manchester Stadium.
But 'Big Phil' has dismissed having held talks with club owner Thaksin Shinawatra and says he is the happiest man on earth in Portugal.
"Portugal offers me everything I need," Scolari told RTP.
"I have no agreement with that club."
Scolari respects Eriksson and does not want to speculate about the Swede’s job.
"I like him as a person and as coach. He is a gentleman.”
The former Gremio manager has said that he has received offers from Benfica, Real Madrid, Barcelona and England in the past, but he never accepted due to bad timing.
"Benfica contacted me (in 2004), but because someone leaked the conversations to the media I refused," he said.
"The same thing happened with the English FA. They came to Lisbon, but suddenly everything was in the media.
"(I have as well been) contacted by Real Madrid and Barcelona (in the past).
"It was the wrong timing as I had just signed with the Portugal FA.”
