Gill: Fergie to continue
by Chris Stanton, 13 May 2008
Manchester United chief executive David Gill insists he has never mentioned the ‘r’ word to Sir Alex Ferguson, with United's board backing the Scot to build another dynasty at Old Trafford.
Retirement was the word on Ferguson’s own lips six years ago before he reversed his initial decision to retire at the end of the 2001/02 season.
The 66-year-old's advancing years have not dulled his enthusiasm for the job nor hampered his ability to deliver success.
United claimed a 10th title in 16 seasons on Sunday and there is the prospect of more silverware to follow with the biggest trophy of them all, the Champions League, in Ferguson's sights once more.

After another superb season, Gill does not envisage the manager calling time on his career anytime soon.
“We never discuss it [retirement]," said Gill. "It came up a few years ago, when he decided to retire, but thankfully he reversed that decision.
“He is on a 12-month rolling contract and we are very happy with that. But retirement never comes up in our conversations.”
