Harry confirms Muntari's Inter move

Harry Redknapp has confirmed Sulley Muntari is on his way to join Jose Mourinho at Italian giants Inter.

Reports of an £11 million move emerged in Italy late on Thursday, but now Redknapp has given official confirmation.

The Portsmouth manager made the revelation whilst discussing the future of Pedro Mendes, who is the £2 million target of Rangers.

Redknapp had initially planned to let the Portuguese leave Fratton Park, but now he admits he needs to keep the former Porto man in order to plug the gap left by Muntari.

“I did speak to Walter [Smith] about a couple of players and he said he liked Mendes,” Redknapp explained in The Daily Record.

“I think his wages might have been an issue for Rangers, but the biggest problem is that with Muntari going I will need Pedro in my team.

“He played his way back into our side for the FA Cup final – he’s a terrific player and a really good lad – and now Muntari is leaving I need him to stay.”

Redknapp did not totally rule out the sale of Mendes as well as Muntari though, but he warned Rangers they will now have to up their bid substantially.

“Pedro is not a player I want to lose.

“Because of the Muntari deal I don’t need to sell anyone else so it would take a big offer for me to consider letting Pedro go.”

Setanta readers' comment of the day

“I'm glad he's staying!! For a few weeks there I thought we were going to get ripped off TWICE in 1 summer! Robbie Keane is a very good footballer but worth £20million i'm not sure. £18million for Barry and £12million for Alonso!! Jesus is it just me or does EVERYONE else see that as terrible business?? Rafa has a plan that he obviously thought Barry would be the perfect cog in his midfield machine but maybe next year, maybe not. I'm not sure about Riera but i'm willing to give him a chance like he deserves!! I hope we win the league this year but Chelsea are looking very strong.”
