Sam: Injury blow

Sinan Samil Sam has picked up an injury, causing his European heavyweight title clash with Matt Skelton to be postponed.

The Turkish fighter was looking forward to his May 30 date in Istanbul but the bout will now take place later this year when he has recovered.

Skelton has expressed his disappointment at missing out on a chance to bounce back from his points defeat to Ruslan Chagaev.

"I am disappointed that the fight has been postponed after putting in lots of hard work in the gym," complained Bedfordshire-born Skelton.

"But I am looking forward to the rearranged date and proving to everyone that I can beat Sam and go on to a second shot at the world title."

The fight was due to be screened live by Setanta Sports.

Harrison at the fight in vegas looked nothing again, you would think someone with something to prove would go all out for it?? and as for skelton some seriously hard work punding the roads I think would be better for him than any more fights!!; Report this to a moderator

paul - 08 May 2008 19:42: first frotch now skelton, hatton fighting a nobody for a worthless title and khan fighing a has been for no real reason, televised british boxing is in a sorry state. hope matt manages to get a fight made soon cos at this level to much time out of the ring will do him no favours but not skelton v harrison!!; Report this to a moderator

“This is terrible news and I am sure all of the sporting world and not just that of golf wishes Seve a speedy recovery. He is a man of great dignity and should be allowed to recuperate away from the media spotlight but we all must hope he pulls round from this.”
