Bradley: I beat the best in world
by Ciaran Baynes, 13 May 2008
New WBC light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley believes he beat the best fighter in the world at his weight class when he defeated Junior Witter on Saturday.
Bradley (22-0, 11 KOs) showed superb composure taking the fight to his opponent and produced the eye-catching blows in the fight, especially the stunning sixth round knockdown before winning the belt on a split decision.
Afterwards, Bradley humbly paid tribute to Witter and explained that he did not go after a stoppage victory after hurting his opponent because he knew how dangerous he was.
"I beat the best fighter in the world - the WBC world champion," Bradley told setantasports.com.

"Junior Witter is a very clever fighter and punch from any position and that's what makes him dangerous. He can pull back and still punch hard.
"He caught me with some good hooks when I was coming forward and a couple of uppercuts. I felt the power and I respected that and I definitely didn't want to get caught with a big shot and lose the fight.
"I'm going after a legacy. I want to be one of the best fighters who ever fought at 140 pounds. Maybe Ricky Hatton or the IBF light welterweight champion Paul Malignaggi - wherever the money's at."
Bradley insists he was always confident that he would have his arm raised, even when he heard that it was a split decision.
"I never lost faith, I truly believed," Bradley added. This wasn't my plan it was God's plan.
"The whole time I came here I knew I was going to win. Junior Witter could see it at the weigh in at the press conference.
"I was focused. I was really humble. I knew I was here on a mission to win that WBC title.
"I thought I was going to finish him in the later rounds but I definitely wanted to be cautious because he's a puncher.
"I didn't want to get caught coming in, getting reckless trying to finish him.
"If the round didn't end I think I would have had him out, but the round ended at the right time for him.
"I could have went back out there the round after and got really crazy but I didn't want to get caught."
