Ingle: Hatton would stop Bradley
by Ciaran Baynes, 12 May 2008
Junior Witter’s mentor Brendan Ingle told setantasports.com that Ricky Hatton would beat new WBC light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley, but insists his man would still come out on top if the two British fighters met.
‘The Hitter’ lost a split decision to unbeaten American Bradley in Nottingham on Saturday night, seemingly ending the faint possibility of setting up a career-defining big-money date with Hatton.
Ingle has not wavered in his long-held belief that Witter would beat Hatton, who defends his Ring Magazine title against Juan Lazcano on May 24, but feels the Manchester fighter’s all-action style would be too much for ‘Desert Storm’.
“Hatton would stop this guy in four or five rounds,” Ingle told setantasports.com.
“His style would be perfect for him, but Junior would still beat Hatton even now.
“That’s boxing. A beats B, B beats C and C can beat A.”
Ingle felt that the knockdown of Witter in the sixth would have knocked out most fighters and proved crucial not just in the point difference, without which Witter would have earned a draw, but in the way it affected him in the following rounds.
“That punch would have knocked 19 out of 20 fighters,” Ingle added. “And he got up”
“It shakes you up. It shakes your brain up, it shakes your decisions. You’re on edge, because you’ve already been caught with the shot, but he caught with the other fella with good shots. “For a split decision the knockdown won the fight.”
