Tyson to offer Haye advice
by Mark Doyle, 11 May 2008
Mike Tyson has revealed that he plans to meet with David Haye on his upcoming visit to Britain to warn the Englishman of the perils of fame and fortune.
Tyson became the youngest man to ever hold a heavyweight world title when he stopped Trevor Berbick in 1986 but, after going on to unify the division, his life quickly began to unravel and he was jailed for three years after being convicted of rape in 1992.
Haye, meanwhile, is considered one of the most exciting fighters in boxing and, after recently establishing himself as the number one cruiserweight in the world, now intends to step up to heavyweight.
Superstardom beckons for The Hayemaker and Tyson would like to advise the 27-year-old Londoner on how best to deal with the attention which is now set to come his way.
"I keep hearing about David Haye and I will try and speak to him to make sure that he doesn't make the type of mistakes I made," Iron Mike is quoted as saying by the Sunday Mirror.
"I've been in hell for so long but I'm starting to get my head together. Every day I want to drink and use drugs but I know I need to stay clean.
"I've been in some of the most amazing situations and I look back and realise how lucky I am to be alive."
Meanwhile, Tyson has been recently linked with a return to the ring but he claims that boxing is no longer his priority.
"There has been a lot of talk about a comeback but all I'm interested in is getting my life back," the 41-year-old American added.
"I'm not fighting but I'm taking back control of my life again."
